The New York Times recently highlighted the work of two Pratt architecture professors and a current student in three separate articles.
Pratt Undergraduate Architecture Professor Haresh Lalvani was featured in The Times's “Science Times” section for his innovative SEED54 sculpture that is currently on view at 1330 Avenue of the Americas at West 54th Street in Manhattan. The story, which ran on February 5, also highlights Professor Lalvani's groundbreaking work at the intersection of art, math, and science.
The Times featured a Q&A with Pratt Graduate Architecture Professor Ron Shiffman on sustainability in New York City in the February 3 issue of the paper. Professor Shiffman, who teaches in Pratt's Programs for Sustainable Planning and Development, is also the co-founder and former director of the Pratt Center for Community Development. Professor Shiffman was recently recognized with two prestigious national honors for his work in the planning field: the Rockefeller Foundation's 2012 Jane Jacobs Medal for Lifetime Leadership and the American Planning Association's 2013 National Planning Excellence Award for a Planning Pioneer.
The Times ran a story on student's favorite school projects in its “Education Life” supplement, also on February 3. The story features architecture student Eric Moed's thesis project at the top left of the page–the first out of five projects to be highlighted. The project is dedicated to Aristides de Sousa Mendes, a Portuguese consul in France who helped save 30,000 refugees (including Moed's grandfather and great-grandfather) during the Holocaust. His thesis project will be realized as an installation in de Sousa Mendes's hometown in Portugal this June.
