Victor and Isolina, a short film directed by filmmaker, composer, and Pratt Institute alumnus William Caballero (B.F.A. Digital Arts ’06), will be screened at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. The festival will take place from January 19-29 in Park City, Utah.
Victor and Isolina was one of 68 short films chosen from more than 9,000 short film submissions from around the world. The film will compete alongside 14 others in the Animation Shorts category.
By turns poignant and humorous, the six-minute film employs Caballero’s unique hybrid-animation style and 3D-printed characters to tell the story of his Puerto Rican grandparents, now in their eighties and living apart, who give separate accounts to questions posed about their relationship.
Caballero also created the web series Gran’pa Knows Best, which was licensed by HBO LATINO three weeks after its online premiere in January 2015 and became the first contracted interstitial series ever licensed by the company. Season Two debuted on HBO in June 2016. Caballero’s short film series, The Smallest Step, about the unique journeys of three individuals of color overcoming adversity on the path to higher education, debuted on PBS and World Channel in fall 2015.
