Innovative research, ideas, and scholarship are taking place every day across Pratt Institute, from developing new sustainable art with robotics, to advancing research in K-12 art and design education, to knitting new wearables with conductive yarn. The power and potential of research at Pratt and beyond will be on full display at #PrattResearchPower: A Research Open House, a half-day event to be held on March 29 on the Brooklyn campus. The free event will offer a window into how research at Pratt is transforming our understanding of the world and meeting its challenges with new ideas and solutions.

“We are excited to share with the wider community the incredible variety of community-based research and advocacy that Pratt’s faculty, staff, and students lead. It will be a time for research inspiration and celebration at Pratt Institute,” said Dr. Allison Druin, Associate Provost for Research and Strategic Partnerships.

The open house event will begin with a panel discussion featuring leaders from industry, government, and the nonprofit world who will focus on why #ResearchMatters. Google search guru Dan Russell will moderate the discussion, which will feature Barbara Ferry, Head of Natural and Physical Sciences Research Services for the Smithsonian; Eli Kuslansky, founding partner and Chief Strategist at Unified Field; Anina Major, ceramicist at Pratt Institute; and Jacqueline Karaaslanian, Executive Director of the Luys Foundation.

Following the panel, guided tours on the Brooklyn Campus will give attendees the opportunity to see how Pratt faculty and students are changing the world of research. Presentations from all of Pratt's Schools and Research Centers will include live demos, discussions of recent work, ideas in progress, and more.
