A locus of creativity and entrepreneurial energy, the Pratt Design Incubator for Sustainable Innovation was recently featured in the New York Daily News for its success in launching design-oriented businesses, all of which are dedicated to sustainable practices. The incubator, located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, has created a thriving community of 30 new companies, generated more than $4.2M in revenue, and sparked 50 jobs. Debera Johnson, executive director, Center for Sustainable Design Studies at Pratt, and founder of the Pratt Design Incubator, has worked with the entrepreneurs to help them integrate sustainability into their successful business practices, which range from fashion, product and jewelry design to social entrepreneurship and clean technology.
