Theoretical physicist Ágnes Mócsy, associate professor in the Math and Science Department, teaches physics and astronomy to art and design students, many of whom do not have an extensive background in science. Mócsy brings STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning to life for her students by drawing them into the evidence-based reasoning process of science and encouraging them to embrace the spirit of exploration and inquiry that science shares with art and design.

This short video showcases Mócsy’s final class project assignment—known as the fusion project, or Fusion-Project Runway—in which students internalize science by researching a scientific topic and using it to inspire work in their own discipline and chosen medium. The scientific methods and concepts they learn can help kindle a passion for science and have a lasting influence on their work in whatever creative field they pursue.
