The Myrtle Avenue Pedestrian Plaza, a $7-million capital project to create a public plaza with outdoor seating, planting areas, and other features on Myrtle Avenue between Hall Street and Emerson Place, is expected to break ground late this summer. Construction is due to last 18 months.

The plaza is the result of a multi-year community planning process led by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, which is chaired by Pratt Institute President Thomas F. Schutte.

Two blocks of the existing asphalt service road will be replaced with public space to house various types of fixed and moveable seating, a flexible programming space, a permanent public art piece, game tables, a concession kiosk, and other amenities. The 25,000 square-foot plaza will feature landscaped areas and dozens of new trees, including honeylocusts and pagodas.

Additional streetscape improvements, pedestrian safety measures, and utility upgrades will be implemented throughout the site. The Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership will maintain the plaza and organize community events.
